Colorectal cancer can be cured if detected early. Screening is the best prevention, and colonoscopy after age 50 should be mandatory. The American Society of Gastroenterology recommends colonoscopy as a preferential method for screening and preventing colorectal cancer. Screening should be initiated in both men and women, starting at the age of 50 years, and should continue until 70-80 years.
