Sugar is a stimulant of pleasure that can lead to addiction as a drug, shows numerous studies that have been made in recent years. However, if it is consumed with the utmost moderation, sugar does not harm the health, but in large quantities, its effects can be very dangerous.
Sugar consumption is not encouraged by doctors because excess sugar is involved in triggering both obesity and diabetes as well as other conditions such as hypertension, Alzheimer's disease, cancer.
The worse is, experts say, that most of the sweet commodity products, especially those for children, have large amounts of sugar. But sugar is not only found in sweets, but also in processed beverages and foods such as potatoes, fruits, cereals, ketchup, mustard, sauces and dressings for salads, soups.
Constant and excessive consumption of sugar affects blood vessels, causing problems in the kidneys, but also in the eyes. Including the immune system is unbalanced due to an excessive consumption of sweets. Ideally, the need for sweet is replaced by eating fresh fruit.

This is why diabetics have been recommended for years to strictly control their sugar intake or to use foods containing sugar substitutes such as fructose.
- Increases the risk of depression. The consumption of many processed foods, including high sugar products such as cakes and sugary drinks, has been associated with a higher risk of depression.
- A lot of studies claim that increased consumption of refined sugar leads to lowering the "good" cholesterol level, which keeps the cardiovascular system healthy, thus developing heart disease.
- It favors cancer. Excessive consumption of sugar also causes a decrease in blood pH below normal levels, causing metabolic acidosis – a disorder that can promote the appearance of some cancers.
- Fragilization of bones. Excessive sugar consumption is a disorder of calcium metabolism and therefore increases the risk of bone fragility.
- Acne, closely related to sugar consumption. More specifically, a diet rich in refined carbohydrates, including foods and soft drinks, has been associated with specialists at a higher risk of developing acne. High glycemic foods, such as processed sweets, increase blood sugar faster than foods with a lower glycemic index. Furthermore, experts say sugar foods quickly increase blood glucose levels and insulin levels, causing increased androgen secretion, oil production and inflammation, all of which play a role in the development of acne.
