Among them, the psychologist Laura Maria Cojocaru believes that the deepest manifestation of love is realized through the language of physical comfort, which includes a very wide range of affection gestures: from hand-holding, kissing, hugging to sexual contact itself. .
“All these gestures are ways to communicate to the partner the emotion of love. Moreover, physical touch is in itself more than the expression of love, but a way to maintain our health and youth both emotionally and mentally or physically. In the folklore there are 3 expressions that best describe the power of the hugs: We need 4 hugs a day to survive, 8 to maintain ourselves and 12 to grow. Several scientists have concluded, through countless experiments, that the need for body contact is as important as the need for hunger, thirst and sleep, ”explains psychologist Laura Maria Cojocaru, president of the Institute of Somato-Integrative Linguistic Neuro-Programming.
Effects of physical embrace or touch
In addition to the feeling of well being it creates, the hugs have the effect of alleviating the pain of the soul, reducing anxiety and depression. For this reason, people who have these experiences are more likely to recover and regain their well-being if they have someone next to them, or even a pet. Hugs can also fight infections effectively and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease.
The importance of touch is reflected in the composition of our skin, which has millions of receptive cells sensitive to the slightest change in pressure and brain structure, where it has been found that the area of the prefrontal cerebral cortex dedicated to touch is much larger than the sum of the areas of all other senses.
“In just ten seconds of hugging, a decrease of the oxytocin (stress hormone) in the brain occurs physically. This chemical reaction lowers blood pressure, fights fatigue and infections and relieves the symptoms of depression. Also, through hugs, the amount of cortisol in the blood (the hormone that regulates carbohydrate metabolism) decreases. The biochemical and physiological reactions to the embrace can produce (especially in women, some studies show) the improvement of social skills (communication, reduction of feelings of embarrassment, assertiveness) and increase of the feeling of confidence. At the same time, embracing brings positive psychological and physiological stimuli, both to those who embrace and to those who are embraced, increasing the feeling of protection, safety, self-confidence and those around, inner strength and health, ”says psychologist Laura Maria Cojocaru.
Sexuality – the language of love that brings health to the body and peace of mind and soul
Sexual appetite is given by the level of estrogen in the blood, and the attraction itself, which we feel towards the partner, is mainly caused by three neuro-transmitters: adrenaline, dopamine and serotonin. Adrenaline causes the heart to beat louder and the pulse to increase, hence the "stomach flutter", dopamine and serotonin cause pleasure.
“During sexual intercourse, kissing or touching, the hypothalamus secretes and neurohypophysis releases vasopressin and oxytocin. These hormones are responsible for maintaining and developing the feelings of love, the appearance of pleasure and also influence the fidelity of a person (in animal studies, it has been observed that these hormones can be life partners). The release of oxytocin is an explanation of the fact that some people really fall in love after having a love affair with their partner, becoming more understanding, more permissive and more attentive to the positive parts of the partner. This is because since dopamine begins to excite the specific centers in our brain, the areas that process negative emotions and negative social criticism slow down their action until it ceases (a fact shown by tomographic analysis of the people in love), ”explains psychologist Laura Maria Cojocaru.
