The study "Fatigue barometer", conducted by the research company iSense Solutions for Mylan Romania at the end of last year, shows that 92% of Romanians in the urban area complain of fatigue and only 39% of them went to the doctor for this problem. As for fatigue solutions, Romanians resort to more rest (64%) and vitamins / food supplements (45%). "Fatigue Barometer”Supported by the company Mylan has as an objective the evaluation of the fatigue and in particular the functional fatigue / asthenia without organic cause among the Romanians, as well as the identification of the professional categories that face an increased degree of functional fatigue.
Fatigue increases from year to year: more than half of those surveyed said they feel at least as much or more tired than the previous year (64%), the professional categories that most feel this difference are the owners / managers, employees with higher education and students / students.
When it comes to the symptoms of fatigue for any cause, Romanians put first physical weakness, exhaustion (49%), followed by nervousness (47%) and lack of patience (44%). The score is supplemented by migraines (39%) and difficulty concentrating (39%).
Regarding the Romanians' perception of fatigue, this is rather different from the reality. Thus, the Romanians consider that, on average, only one in two people around them suffers from fatigue. The professions perceived as the most affected by fatigue are teacher (34%), driver (30%) and pilot (26%).
FUNCTIONAL OBOSEAL / ASTENIC SYNDROME WITHOUT ORGANIC CAUSE
Among the types of fatigue (asthenia) most commonly encountered are functional fatigue. According to the literature, fatigue (asthenia) is functional ofwhat does not improve after an adequate period of rest or rest is persistent, but does not last more than six consecutive months. Functional fatigue is not due to a disease, but is the effect of psychosocial, physical or psychological factors (for example, stress, professional, family or social overwork, prolonged physical and / or mental overload, unbalanced diet, etc.). It is felt under different aspects, affecting the mental, physical, intellectual and motivational spheres.
Often, however, the symptoms of fatigue are considered normal, because everyone around them complains about it. According to the "Fatigue Barometer", once the criteria for defining fatigue types have been presented, one in three of the Romanians in the urban area aged 18-55 considered to have functional fatigue / asthenic syndrome without organic cause. Extrapolated to the population of Romania, this means that almost 2 million people suffer from functional fatigue. Employees with higher education (37%) and free professionals (30%) are among those who feel the most.
“We live in a period of many challenges that generate overload and stress. Frequently we respond to the tasks we have to do and overwork, putting even more pressure on us to do them. From a psychological point of view, the functional fatigue has the effect of irascibility, nervousness, lack of patience. These affect how we feel everyday and how we behave in the relationship with loved ones (the child, the partner) or in working relationships. On the other hand, functional fatigue affects our performance and cognitive functioning at the same time: our ability to concentrate, to focus, not to remember things, and as a result, we make more mistakes or decrease our work performance. Given its impact on the quality of our life, it is important not to neglect fatigue, not to minimize its effects, to take it seriously and to treat it ”, said Bogdana Bursuc, chief clinical psychologist, supervisor and cognitive-behavioral psychotherapist.
Fit "Barometer", those who work in the financial field, that is to say, bankers, auditors and accountants, are "champions" in fatigue – 98% of those included in the study said they suffer from it and 42% identified the form of functional fatigue / asthenic syndrome . This affects their daily activities differently: most of them no longer have the desire to do things or activities. The symptom of fatigue most commonly encountered in this professional category in Romania is physical weakness.
