The trivial mistake that significantly increases the risk of death associated with cardiovascular disease
The banal mistake that many people make, no matter what part of the globe they are. But a recent international study, quoted by Xinhua, signals the alarm: this habit is closely correlated with an increased risk of death associated with cardiovascular disease.
A group of researchers from Iowa University in the United States and Wuhan University of Science and Technology in China came to the conclusion that people who never take breakfast have a higher risk of 87% of death associated with a cardiovascular disease, unlike those who eat each morning.
The study was published at the end of April 2019 in the journal Journal of the American College of Cardiology, according to Agerpres.
Based on data included in the National Health and Nutrition Survey, conducted annually by the American Center for Disease Prevention and Control, specialists have identified and analyzed data collected between 1988 and 1994 from 6,550 Americans aged 40 to 75 .
This study is the first of its kind to analyze the impact of breakfast on the risk of death associated with cardiovascular disease, as Wei Bao, associate professor at Iowa University, co-author of the research.
The habit of skipping breakfast was also a behavioral indicator of unhealthy lifestyles, those who do not eat in the morning "more likely to be overweight, large alcohol users, former smokers, high cholesterol, income reduced diet and poor food, "added Bao.
"Our study highlights the benefits of breakfast to support cardiovascular health," said the researchers involved.
According to World Health Organization (WHO) data, cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of death worldwide – 17.9 million deaths, accounting for 31% of the total deaths worldwide.
